DIAMOND JUBILEE RALLY

MARCH, 2010

Dear Fellow members of the East Centre,

As a Past Chairman of the East Centre, I have been asked to write a small article for the website, to commemorate this very special year for the East Centre.

Iain and I were privileged to be part of the rally team for the Ruby Rally, along with Brian & Anne Russell and Ann and Duncan McGowan. The rally and the celebration social were held in the Deer Park Rugby Club, Dunbar.  As part of the Ruby Celebrations, there was also a dinner dance held in the Maybury Hotel, Edinburgh.

The Golden Jubilee Rally was also held in Dunbar. I was honoured to be Centre Chairman at the time and was very pleased to accept the gift of a beautiful crystal bowl, presented to the East Centre by Mr. Bob Black, Chairman of The Caravan Club at the time.

The rally was opened on a lovely sunny, but somewhat windy Saturday morning. All the ralliers brought their chairs, to sit around and enjoy the celebrations.  After the cutting of the cake, everyone was treated to a taste, along with some wine to wash it down nicely. A photograph was then taken of all the Past Chairmen who attended this very special event.

The immediate Past Chairman of the East Centre at that time, Anne Russell and her husband Brian, gifted a lovely new pennant to the centre, to commemorate the Golden Jubilee and it was proudly flown from the centre flagpole all weekend.

In the evening, a very successful buffet dance was held. The function suite had been beautifully decorated by the Social committee, with golden balloons, napkins, candles etc.  A fantastic night was had by all who attended.

It is an amazing achievement for the East centre to have now reached their Diamond Jubilee and Iain and I are delighted to be part of the celebrations once again. We wish everyone a very successful and enjoyable Diamond Jubilee rally.

Congratulations to the East Centre Chairman, committee and centre members and may I also take this opportunity to thank all the many visitors who have supported the East Centre rallies and events over the past 60 years.

 Iain and I certainly hope, that in due course, we will be fortunate enough to be able to participate in the East Centre‘s Platinum Jubilee Celebration as well.
